The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) campus in Singapore will introduce students to the Marina Bay Sands and the staff behind the integrated resort (IR) to learn in-depth insights about the hospitality industry and how the IR could potentially collect exciting revenues.
UNLV Singapore dean Andy Nazarechuk said the university has a “close relationship” with the Las Vegas Sands, parent company of the Marina IR, which is expected to open in 2009.
With the close relationship between UNLV Singapore and Las Vegas Sands, UNLV students can enjoy interaction with Sands insiders, who are expected to become UNLV guest speakers. There may also be projects on the IR.
The UNLV Singapore master’’s course is structured as a part-time degree for working professionals and there are five one-week seminars held every three months at the UNLV Singapore campus at the National Library building.
The Master’’s course covers the significance and opportunities in meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions (Mice) and gaming.
UNLV has launched its recruitment of candidates for the first batch of 20 students, who will begin their course in November.
Professor Nazarechuk expects the first intake to be primarily made up of Singaporeans but then he hopes to take in mostly international students from Asia.
Prof Nazarechuk expects hospitality to gain more popularity as a career because of the opportunities in the said field.
